New Hotline and Know Your Rights Trainings Aim to Strengthen Community Support and Rapid Response in Rural communities and border towns.
COOLIDGE, AZ – Rural Arizona Engagement (RAZE) is launching Protect Our Pueblos, a new initiative dedicated to protecting undocumented and immigrant families in rural Arizona. In partnership with the ACLU of Arizona, RAZE is providing a series of Know Your Rights training, and introducing a community hotline for rural residents to report Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sightings to confirm and receive support.
The Know Your Rights Training: Protecting Immigrant Families will be held virtually every Monday for the next month, starting Monday, February 3 at 6 PM.
“Rural communities are often the most vulnerable and have the least access to resources, especially those who are undocumented. Through the Protect Our Pueblos campaign, we are working to change that by equipping people with knowledge, support, and a rapid response network,” said Andrea Varela, Organizing Director for Rural Arizona Engagement.
This training will cover immigration rights, community support, and rapid response strategies to respond fast to immigrant rights violations, and/or ICE raids. Participants who complete the training will have the opportunity to join RAZE’s network as scouts and observers, supporting rapid response efforts to protect immigrant families.
“We have allies and volunteers on the ground in rural communities,” she added. “We are in a unique position to provide direct statewide support and real-time responses when families need it the most.”
In addition to the training, RAZE is launching a community hotline focused specifically on rural Arizona, where communities often have limited access to legal resources and immigration support. Hotline can be reached at: ###-###-####.
Our rural communities have immigrant and migrant farm workers, mixed-status families and a strong latine presence. Their safety is our priority and the hotline will provide a direct and reliable way for rural residents to report ICE activity in their area. RAZE will be able to respond swiftly in confirming, and to provide assistance. The goal is to ensure that rural immigrant families are not left isolated and unprotected in the face of Trump’s mass deportation plan.
